Tech Prep Consortium

Home | Faculty Resources | Student Resources | Tech Prep Consortium

Program Description
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) instituted significant changes to Tech Prep, effective September 1, 2008. The program has been renamed the Secondary Postsecondary CVTE Linkage Consortium and funded with DESE formula allocation grants to community colleges. Consortia are comprised of community colleges and school districts that have Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Colleges and school districts were assigned to consortia by the DESE. The Massasoit Consortium includes eleven school districts. Student registration has been eliminated, and all 11th and 12th grade students in CTE programs meet the former definition of “Tech Prep student.”
Massasoit is responsible for providing support and professional development that will help the eleven consortium high schools to produce college-ready CTE graduates who enroll in and complete postsecondary CTE education, though not necessarily at Massasoit.

The focus of this program is to increase the number of students who enroll in postsecondary education and reduce the number of CTE students who enter college needing remediation in math, reading, and writing. To do this, the college must educate high schools about what “college-ready” means and identify areas in which high schools need to provide remediation.
