Electronic Technology

Electronics is a dynamic and ever expanding industry. It reaches into almost every branch of technology that touches our lives today.  Opportunities in this field can be found in the computer industry, manufacturing and industrial electronics, music industry, consumer electronics and telecommunications to name a few.

Massasoit Community College offers two options in its Electronic Technology program; Electronic Circuit Technology and Telecommunications.

To administer an educational program that will enable students to develop the fundamental skills and knowledge base necessary to obtain gainful employment in the electronics industry.

  • To provide students with the information necessary to build a strong fundamental knowledge base of electronic principles and theory.
  • To demonstrate to students both the theoretical and practical applications of electronics theory to enhance their appreciation and understanding of its principles.
  • To challenge students to utilize the fundamentals of their electronic education as tools for future troubleshooting and analysis.
  • To provide a laboratory environment that allows the student to put the principles of electronic theory to application, using equipment in compliance with industry standards.
  • To develop the students ability to communicate technical information.

Electronic Circuit Technology provides the student with the understanding and skills of electronics as it applies to analog, digital, and industrial circuits. Students in this program obtain solid fundamentals in electronic theory and then take courses to apply these fundamentals in various applications found in the electronics industry. These applications include integrated circuit technology, computer circuitry and basic architecture, and industrial process automation control.

In addition, the Telecommunications Technology program is offered to connect the students of today with the ever-expanding information technology of tomorrow. It is in this area that businesses will compete, merge and redefine the market to meet radically changing industry needs and to offer consumer services. Students learn to install, configure, monitor, and maintain end devices operations such as  Pcs, servers, Cisco switches and Routers, Cisco Firewall in a networking environment. In addition, they will learn to set up security encryption, on Linux and Windows platforms, monitor and maintain communication ( voice, video or data) between different networks via optical fiber, cable, and wireless; and manage SAN (storage area network) and cloud networks.

Graduates of the Electronics Technology program can expect to enter the labor market as electrical technicians with strong backgrounds in basic electricity and electronics and will be able to function in a variety of areas required by employment in the construction field, manufacturing, marketing and service industry.

Graduates of the Telecommunications Technology program are able to earn a degree and certificate in Networking Specialist that can also lead to certification as a Cisco Certified Networking Administrator. Graduates can expect to enter the labor market as network and computer systems associates, computer support specialists, IT, data and network security technicians.
