Paralegal Standout Student
Emanuel DePina

Paralegal - Emanuel DePina

Fighting social injustice is something Emanuel DePina has been passionate about since he was in high school in Cape Verde.  The best way he knew to accomplish this goal was through a career in the legal field.  Growing up, Emanuel witnessed much social injustice within his community.  “Education is key for success in life”, he said, reflecting on his past.  “You need to be educated”.  As a Criminal Justice major at Massasoit Community College, Emanuel saw an opportunity to advance his knowledge of the legal field by taking the Paralegal certificate program at Massasoit in the fall 2017 semester.

Emanuel exceled in the program, being identified as an exemplary student by his instructor, Matthew Fabisch.  Criminal and civil law were Emanuel’s favorite topics, giving him insight into the inner workings of the legal system.  Upon completing the program Emanuel was offered several Paralegal jobs by various, local law firms.  The certificate he earned through the Paralegal program made him extremely marketable within the legal industry.

As excited as he was to receive the job offers, Emanuel decided to continue his education instead.  He earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Massasoit Community College in the spring of 2018 and was awarded a full merit scholarship in the Criminal Justice program at Bridgewater State University.  He hopes to attend Harvard Law School after earning his bachelor’s degree.  Completing the Paralegal program was an important step in Emanuel’s decision to pursue his dream of becoming a criminal prosecutor.  He recommends the program to anyone interested in entering the legal field.
