Recreational Marine Diesel Engines
This class will introduce the student to the operational principles of the most common diesel fuel systems used on modern diesel engines. Rotary injection pumps, inline fuel injection pumps, common rail fuel systems, unit injector systems, jerk pump systems will be covered. Fuel system testing including low pressure, injector testing and electronic testing will be covered on all of the systems. Proper injector pump timing will be covered in the lab sessions, with the students installing both inline and rotary fuel pumps on running engines. Troubleshooting for the inline and low pressure systems will be accomplished utilizing a Cummins B series engine on an engine dynamometer, duplicating realistic operating conditions.
Recreational Marine Electrical Systems
This 24-hour course will introduce the basic components and principles of electrical systems in the recreational marine trade industry. Topics will include: electrical basics, use of a multimeter, wiring diagrams, symbols, color codes, battery charging, battery testing, starter and engine instrumentation troubleshooting. Interfacing and troubleshooting DC installations will also be included. An industry recognized certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course.
