College Transitions Program

Stoughton Adult Basic Education Program | Transitional ESL Classes | GED Preparation Classes

The Transitions Program held at the Massasoit Community College’s Brockton Campus is designed to provide individual support to help students make the transition to college-level work during their first year.

Through the College Experience course, students become familiar with the college’s resources and develop the skills necessary to succeed at the college level. In addition the Transitions Program provides free preparatory classes in Reading, Basic Math, Writing, and Computers.

Students enrolled in the Transitions Program will receive:
  • 3-Credit College Experience class~Free (This required class runs in the evening on the Brockton Campus.)
  • Up to 3 Developmental Reading, Writing, and/or Math courses~ Free (Developmental courses are available at both the Brockton and Canton Campuses.)
  • Introductory Computers (worth three college credits) - Free
  • Individualized Academic Counseling Services ~ Free
  • Textbooks for enrolled courses ~ Free

To be eligible , you must meet the following requirements:
  • Have been enrolled in a community-based Massachusetts Department of Education funded Adult Basic Education, GED, or ESOL program within the past 10 years.
  • Have a Social Security Number & photo ID
  • Are a Massachusetts resident
  • Are an American citizen
    OR
    have a permanent residency status ~ (“Green Card”)
  • Have a GED
    OR
    Are an ESOL student with a high school diploma from your native country that can be certified by the Center for Educational Documentation.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to read at a college level as determined by a standardized assessment (TABE).
